Whether you're planning a barbecue, a picnic or a simple light supper, one of our cheese of the month should fit the bill. Come in during June and we'll encourage you to taste them and take them home with a 10% discount. To enjoy any cheese at it’s best, take it out of the fridge for at least half an hour (an hour would be even better) before you eat it, the difference in flavour is amazing. To store your cheese ensure you keep it well wrapped, avoid cling film. It is best if you reuse the cheese wrap we have wrapped it in or waxed paper. Banon d'Or This must be the ultimate picnic cheese, it comes in it's own biodegradable wrapper! Traditionally eaten by the farmers of Provence with a teaspoon and washed down with chilled local wine. Origin – Provence, France Milk – Cow Style – fresh, soft. Appearance – white to cream coloured soft paste, wrapped in chestnut leaves.
The leaves will turn brown when at peak ripeness.
This cheese originates from the sunny, windswept hillsides around the market town of Bannon, Provence. After a short maturation period of just two weeks the cheese is dipped in brandy or eau de vie and wrapped in chestnut leaves. Still young and fresh, the cheese absorbs the delicate, subtle vegetal flavour of the leaves. Banon is creamy with a full fruity & woody flavour, with lingering tannic notes. Tunworth Origin – Hampshire, UK Milk – Cow, unpasteurised Style – soft Appearance – White chalky curd with soft white bloom. The curd turns creamy yellow and softens as it matures. Feta (PDO) Could there be any other single cheese that makes you think of sunshine and holidays than feta? This cheese is ideal for salads, especially Greek ones. Feta is also a great filling along with fresh tomatoes, basil & olives in filo tarts as a starter or a light summer supper. Origin – Greece Milk –Ewe & goat, pasteurised Style – fresh Appearance - bright white paste, which has no rind. It has a solid consistancy with a few small holes. The cheese should be moist as it is should be held in brine. |
